The Lime Lighter

Music-Reading Solution for People with Low Vision

Are you struggling to see the notes? The Lime Lighter from Dancing Dots lets people with low vision read print music with ease, clarity and comfort.

If any of the following applies to you, The Lime Lighter is the solution for you:

  • I used to love to play the piano, but I don't play anymore since I cannot clearly see the music on the music rack.
  • I want to play in our school band, but I have to enlarge the sheet music so much that it falls off the music stand.
  • I enjoy singing in our church choir and community chorus, but I struggle to see the music.
  • My dyslexia makes it hard to read sheet music. Color contrasts would help me distinguish one note from another.

What is Lime Lighter?

Dancing Dots publishes a version of the Lime notation software called Lime Lighter that has special scrolling and magnification features to enable performers with low vision to read and write music notation. We bundle it with hardware such as 2-in-1 laptop-tablets from Dell and HP as well as the wireless pedal board from AirTurn.

You can order a 2-in-1 PC with all software loaded (Lime Lighter Leggiero models) or just the software and the 4-switch pedal board (Lime Lighter Liberty). All bundled computers run Windows 11 and can be used as a full-featured Windows PC.

Which Model is Best for Me?

We know that low vision conditions are rarely simple. Please review this page and then contact us for a consultation on which model might be right for you.

  • Lime Lighter Leggiero (Best Seller): A portable, 16-inch, 2-in-1 touch screen tablet/laptop PC weighing about 6 pounds, about one inch thick, running on AC power or at least 3 hours on battery. Mounts on a conventional music stand or piano music rack.
  • Lime Lighter Liberty: Run Lime Lighter software using the computer and monitor of your choice.
  • All models include a special version of the Lime music notation software for reading and writing magnified music, music OCR software, and the 4-switch wireless pedal board.
  • Option to invert video and display each of the 7 notes of the scale in a different color.

How Does It Work?

After you set your preferences for magnification and screen color, press the pedal to start manual scrolling mode. A focus rectangle indicates the current measure. Press the pedal to bring the next bar of music into view.

Alternatively, press the pedal to initiate automatic scrolling. Increase or decrease the scrolling rate with one of the four pedals.

Features

  • Read magnified music hands-free - keep your hands on your instrument while scrolling with the pedal.
  • Displays magnified print music notation from zoom level 1 to 10.
  • Mark up your music on screen using your finger, wireless mouse, or stylus.
  • Practice option: play along while Lime Lighter automatically scrolls at your desired tempo. Easily disable playback any time.
  • Optionally use third-party magnification software such as ZoomText Fusion or Windows Magnifier for program menus and dialogs, or to modify foreground and background colors.
  • Composers and arrangers can use Lime Lighter to enter, revise, play back, and print their musical ideas.
