This four-hour online course, "Creating Accessible Scores", is for blind or low vision students or a sighted or blind teacher who wants to learn how to teach the skills presented.
Sighted teachers learn best practices for preparing the Lime notation files to be transcribed into braille music with the GoodFeel application or to be viewed using the Lime Lighter features for musicians with low vision. Visually impaired students learn how to prepare accessible print music scores using the talking score feature of the Lime notation editor. Blind and low vision musicians access the print score as braille music, talking scores, or magnified notes using Dancing Dots software.
You will learn to:
- Enter notes, lyrics, etc. directly into the Lime editor.
- Scan with SharpEye Music Reader music OCR software, correct errors, and export to MusicXML format in order to import into Lime. Note: the error correction procedure of SharpEye is largely inaccessible to blind and low vision users.
- Import MusicXML scores into Lime that were exported from numerous music notation applications popular with music educators such as Dorico and Sibelius
- Discover options for automatically transcribing your Lime scores to equivalent braille music using GoodFeel software or how to use special scrolling and magnification features of Lime Lighter to benefit low vision performers
- Optimize the talking score feature for JAWS or other screen readers
The course can be one-on-one or for a small class of two or three. We will tailor instruction based on which of our accessible notation products you wish to learn to use. Existing or prospective customers welcome. Evaluation versions of the software will be provided with a temporary authorization of thirty days.
